Sloppy Joes, also known as BBQ Beef Baps is the best ever ! Ready in 20 – 25 minutes and perfect for lunch, a light dinner or on game day

Sloppy Joes

This Sloppy Joes recipe is my go-to recipe which I make when I am in a hurry or just don’t feel like spending a lot of time in the kitchen.

It also helps that the whole family just loves them !

Sloppy Joes

What goes into a homemade Sloppy Joes mix ?  (Scroll down for the printable recipe card as well as the nutritional values)

  • 675 g Lean Ground Beef, ( 1 1/2 pounds )
  • 2 Onions finely, chopped
  • 2 Green Bell Peppers, sliced thinly
  • 2 t Fresh Garlic, crushed
  • 1/3 cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • 2 TB Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 TB Mustard
  • 3/4 cup Tomato Sauce, ( thick ketch-up )
  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • 8 Hamburger Buns, ( Baps )

HOW TO MAKE Sloppy Joes:

  1. Heat the Oil in a large skillet – cook the ground Beef until done – drain if necessary – remove from skillet and keep aside
  2. Add a little more Oil (if needed) and saute the Onion, Green Bell Peppers and Garlic until soft but not brown
  3. Combine the Dark Brown Sugar, Worcestershire Sauce, Mustard, Tomato Sauce and Cider Vinegar – add to the vegetables in the skillet – Cook over low heat for 3 – 5 minutes
  4. Add the cooked Ground Beef to the mixture in the skillet – stir through – season to taste with Salt and Pepper
  5. Heat through gently (not too long – only until heated through)
  6. Spoon the BBQ Beef onto the Hamburger buns and serve

Sloppy Joes

Now and then I will make this in the morning if I have a busy afternoon and just leave it till dinner time. A quick re-heat and all is fine, the Meat does not dry out – as long as it is kept covered.

Sloppy Joes

I really love this recipe because it is not too saucy, but definitely not dry.

And of course, dinner (or lunch) is on the table in 20 – 25 minutes. Now that is a winner, right ?
