Italian Kisses

Italian Kisses are delicious, chocolate covered, creamy ice-cream, bite-sized desserts. These Kisses are filled with boozy Peppermint Ice-Cream.

Perfectly star shaped for Christmas and so easy to make !

What are Kisses In Italian ? Well, literally kiss is bacio and kisses, baci in Italian. However ! To me, the only Italian Kisses are these ice-cream filled sweet treats which have been a popular dessert for years.

Absolutely perfect not only for dessert but especially delicious with your after dinner cup of coffee.

Italian Kisses

Italian Kisses are also getting more expensive by the day, and usually you (well me), can only find the ones filled with Vanilla ice-cream, covered in Dark or Milk Chocolate.

Which is fine as it is not an everyday dessert.

I am thinking, as I am sure you do as well, about Christmas dessert (and all the rest of it).

These Italian Kisses’ filling are made with a good quality Ice-Cream, combined with a nice shot of Peppermint Liqueur. Not kid friendly !  Definitely adult approved !

Italian Kisses

Mostly I love homemade ice-cream based desserts for two reasons 1) make-ahead friendly treats – can be kept frozen in a sealed container for up to three months.

And, 2) when making your own Kisses desserts, you are in charge of the quality of the ice-cream, the flavorings etcetera.

Italian Kisses

In the photo above you can see the Peppermint ice-Cream filling. I have removed one from the freezer and directly sliced it in half in order for you to see.

Do, however, serve the Kisses after about 5 – 8 minutes from removing them from the freezer. Unless you live in a very hot area (or it is Summer time).

Ingredients

  • 100 grams White Chocolate good eating quality, melted ( 3.5 oz )
  • ½ cup Vanilla Ice-Cream good quality, defrosted in the fridge
  • 2 tablespoons Peppermint Liqueur
  • Edible decorations optional

Instructions

  • Use six silicone star shaped molds - should be big enough to hold a thin layer of chocolate as well as two tablespoons ice-cream
  • Start by brushing the insides of the molds, using a silicone brush, with a thin layer of White Chocolate - bottom and up the sides (see Notes below)
  • Place in the refrigerator for a minute to harden, repeat the brushing - refrigerate and repeat the process once more
  • The Chocolate should now be covering all the sides, nooks and bottom of the mold
  • Combine the defrosted Ice-Cream and Peppermint Liqueur - pour about two tablespoons into each of the prepared Chocolate Stars (still in the silicone molds)
  • Place in the freezer for 90 minutes or until the Ice-Cream is frozen
  • Remove from the freezer, give a final brush with a layer or two of melted Chocolate over the Ice-Cream top and return to the refrigerator for a minute
  • Just before serving remove the silicone molds by gently pulling it away from the Chocolate Ice-Cream Stars
  • Decorate with edible glitter or however you prefer and serve

Notes

  • The first, and even second layer, of the Chocolate do not have to be perfect - you only want a starting point - as the molds and Chocolate gets colder, every other layer will stick better
  • Italian Kisses will be fine if kept in a sealed container in the freezer for up to three months
