This Cheesy Garlic Shrimp Appetizer is cooked in Butter and Lemon Juice. All covered in three Cheeses ! Perfect appetizer to any seafood (especially) main dish.
Shrimp baked in a Lemon Garlic-Butter Sauce is just amazing by itself.
Cover with Cheese, three Cheeses to be precise, and this turns amazing into a whole new level !
We used to order this dish from a restaurant we frequented a couple of years ago. Sometimes we only ordered this Garlic Shrimp Appetizer and no main meal.
It is perfect for lunch with a couple of slices of brown bread (crusts removed and cut into fingers). However, at this specific restaurant we also ordered the dish as intended.
As an appetizer before our main meal.
Then of course, in 2020 the world changed so much, and restaurants were closed for a very long time.
So, when we had the craving for the Cheesy Garlic Shrimp, we invented our own recipe and hubby and I have had it numerous times already. This is now the perfect copy-cat recipe of the restaurant’s !
Ingredients to make Cheesy Garlic Shrimp Appetizers :
- 54 Medium Shrimp, defrosted, cleaned and deveined
- 27 teaspoons Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
- 12 teaspoons Garlic, freshly minced (not too fine)
- 54 teaspoons Unsalted Butter, softened
- Salt and Black Pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese, grated
- 1/2 cup Cheddar Cheese, grated
- 1/3 cup Gouda Cheese, grated
- 1/2 cup Parsley, chopped
You can also use larger Shrimp and cut into the correct size to fit into the snail bowl holes.
Please make sure the Butter is as soft as you can get it, as this should completely melt and warm quickly as the Shrimp will cook in the combined Lemon Juice, Garlic and Butter.
Cover (loosely) with the three Cheeses. Pop into the oven under the grill and the Shrimp should be ready as soon as the Cheese is all melted, bubbly and slightly browned.
Serve with the brown bread fingers.
Gooey Cheese, cooked Shrimp and the amazing juices/sauce to scoop up with your bread. Absolutely delicious !
Bonus : You can make one, six or even more, quickly and easily.
We finally had all the kids over for a Seafood Braai (barbecue) Day in September and they all loved this Cheesy Garlic Shrimp Appetizer.

Cheesy Garlic Shrimp Appetizer
Ingredients
- 54 Medium Shrimp defrosted, cleaned and deveined
- 27 teaspoons Lemon Juice freshly squeezed
- 12 teaspoons Garlic freshly minced (not too fine)
- 54 teaspoons Unsalted Butter softened
- Salt and Black Pepper to taste
- ½ cup Mozzarella Cheese grated
- ½ cup Cheddar Cheese grated
- ⅓ cup Gouda Cheese grated
- ½ cup Parsley chopped
Instructions
- Spray 6 snail bowls (escargot bowls) with cooking oil - all over, inside the holes as well as the top
- Make sure the Shrimp is as dry as possible (see note below*) - place one piece in each hole and three pieces in the larger, center hole
- Spoon a half teaspoonful of Lemon Juice over the Shrimp, followed by a quarter teaspoonful of Garlic and a teaspoonful of Unsalted Butter (see note below**) - season to taste with Salt and Black Pepper
- Combine the three Cheeses and sprinkle over the 6 Shrimp filled bowls
- Set your oven on the top grill element - place the Shrimp bowls on the center rack and bake until the Cheese is bubbly and slightly browned
- Serve immediately, sprinkled with Parsley with brown bread fingers (crusts removed)

Hi Glen, dit is presies soos ons die resep begin toets het, en na 1 of 2 klein (ander) veranderings maak ons steeds soos in die resepte kaart. Die Garnaal word in werklikheid gekook/stoom in die suurlemoensap en botter. Dus, elke Garnaal kry n halwe teelepel suurlemoensap en die middelste kry effens meer
