Sliding Spice Rack is an easy DIY project to organize all your dried herbs and spices in one place with a step-by-step tutorial.
A Sliding Spice Rack ! I wanted a large spice rack, dedicated ONLY to spices for a long time. The bottles were in a kitchen cabinet, then against the wall – in a long row – on a counter, and then back to the cabinet again.
But it was always a mess to find what I was looking for. After we (finally!) sorted out the Corner Cabinet recently, we had a small gap between the gas stove, which I never use this oven, only the stove top, and the cabinets. Perfect!
The pic above shows the gap … I mean, really ?! It was screaming for a spice rack !
How to make a Sliding Spice Rack :
We took some measurements and had some White Melamine cut to size at our local Builders Express as follows:
5 – 468mm x 90mm x 16mm thick
2 – 840mm x 90mm x 16mm thick
which we used to build the rack as above
We added two dowel sticks to each rack to keep the spices visible and secure, after which we painted the open wood parts in white
The sliding system was secured to the top of the spice rack and the other piece to the bottom of the counter top – love these sliding gadgets !
See our DIY Grocery Slider and also our Kitchen Cabinet Sliders where we have used them in different ways.
(These can be used on the floor/shelves, on the sides of counters and as per this post under the counter top)
All painted and we added a handle for easy pull out
Enough space for at least 40 standard size spice/herb bottles ! And now they are close to both the stoves – the gas stove is on the right and the electric stove and eye level oven is at the back in the pic.
Very slight opening between the spice rack and the floor.
Sliding Spice Rack (DIY)
All nicely organized now !
It took less than 2 hours to construct, paint and hang the spice rack (that is after we had the Melamine cut to size, of course)
Do you have two hours and want a spice rack? Well, I showed you how easy it is to make … the rest is up to you !
Enjoy building and organizing your own spice rack (remember to use your own custom sizes though)

I love this idea, and I WANT ONE in my kitchen! My husband is a cabinet maker, so you'd think I'd have all the greatest in stylish and useable kitchen cabinets, right? No, just like the cobbler's kids and no shoes! Ha! I'm just popping over from the Brag About IT Link Party. I have pinned, liked and tweeted, and g+-ed. I would love it if you would drop by my site at http://www.kneadedcreations.com for a short visit! I will look forward to seeing you there! Deb @ Kneaded Creations
