Homemade Turkish Delight is soft, chewy and easier to make at home than you might think ! These popular sweet treats also make the perfect edible gifts
I have chosen this Homemade Turkish Delight as my contribution to a pink recipe in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is of course every October.
Recently I have read that Breast Cancer, besides Lung Cancer, causes the most deaths and this includes women of varying ages. The Bring Your Brave Campaign is set out to make all women between the ages of 18 – 44 aware of Breast Cancer.
Many women find out too late especially nowadays with everything done in a rush and self examinations are forgotten. Or you tell yourself, tomorrow,,,, tomorrow might be too late, ladies.
Make a point to find the time and regularly feel for any strange bumps, lumps or whatever does not feel normal.
Now, one can not always detect cancer that way, and neither does it turn out to be cancer every time you feel something. But rather have it checked out and do remember – go for that mammogram you have been putting off, year after year.
I know, it’s not the most comfortable test, actually it is straightforward painful, but so much better once you get the results and can put your mind to rest. Or God forbid, something is found and you can get the help you need rather sooner than too late.
Read more about Breast Cancer in THIS article, where, to the left side are a bunch of links to answer just about any question you might have.
A Whole bunch of awesome bloggers have come together to share their Pink recipes in honor of Breast Awareness Month and I do hope you check them all out – links at the bottom of the collage.
Here is my contribution for soft, chewy homemade Turkish Delight candy.
Homemade Turkish Delight
Ingredients
- ¼ cup Gelatin Powder unflavored
- 1 cup Cold Water
- 3 cups Caster Sugar (finer than plain Sugar, but not as fine as powdered sugar)
- 4 t Rosewater
- Pink Food Coloring
TO DUST:
- 3 TB Icing Sugar
- 1 t Cornflour (Cornstarch)
Instructions
- Using a large saucepan – slowly heat the Gelatin, Water, Caster Sugar and Rosewater, stirring continuously, until the Sugar and Gelatin have dissolved completely – use a wet (water) pastry brush to brush away any sugar crystals which might build up against the walls of the saucepan
- Bring to boiling point, then reduce heat and slowly simmer, without stirring, for 20 minutes
- Meanwhile, spray a 20 centimeter square {8 inch square} heat proof dish with cooking oil – bottom and up the sides
- Remove the Turkish Delight mixture from the heat – add a drop or two of Food Coloring and stir – add more until you are happy with the color – pour the mixture into the prepared dish
- Cover with cling wrap and leave to set at room temperature for 24 hours
- Once completely set, use a sharp, wet knife and slice into small candy sized pieces
- Combine the Icing Sugar and Cornflour – cover the candies and you are done
Keep in a sealed container at room temperature. This also makes a delicious homemade candy gift idea.

Hi Linda! Thank you so much for sharing this at Thriving on Thursdays. I've always been keen to try making it but been scared off thinking it's really quite complicated. I'm featuring it at tomorrow's party.
